SUP Club – Season Opener…
It might have come a week late, but this season’s first SUP Club was a great success thanks to the 12 who made it up to Paper Mill Lock last night… With sunset at 7.45pm we needed to make a relatively early start, but tried something a bit different this week – rather than travel a couple of locks and back, we decided to stay between Paper Mill and Rushes Lock, looping back to the start to pick up latecomers and make sure no-one got left behind.
So Trevor, Claire, Dan, Jo, Ryan, El and Dunc hit the water at 6.20 for the first little loop up to the house with the weeping willow, then back to Paper Mill – which gave Alex, Jamie, Graham, Nathan and Leia time to launch before we all headed up to the bridge. Then back to the house, before heading all the way up to Rushes Lock and back to the launch by 8pm, after sunset but before dark. All-up it was just over 7km in an hour and a half, but the looping gave everyone the chance to go as far as they liked at their own pace without anyone getting left behind.
Getting off the water early has its benefits: most of us were ready for dinner, and it gave us plenty of time to make it to the Lion Inn in Boreham (www.lioninnhotel.co.uk) for a fantastic meal. Here’s to much more of the same this season!
If you want to join a Wednesday night SUP Club, all we ask is that you have some paddling experience (if not, check out our SUP Lessons) – we call Wednesday SUP Club on the day on our Facebook page and Wet’n’Dry SUP calendar, location depending on weather and tide conditions. If you have your own kit, just turn up and you’ll be very welcome. If not, we do offer limited SUP hire for £25.
